Cozy Days

Outfit Details:
Cardigan Similar {Here} | Tank | Jeans | Boots Similar {Here}

Probably one of my favorite outfits to lounge around in. Super comfy, super cute and just an all around delight to wear when it's cold and snowy out.

Layering has become my best friend on the days where the temperatures don't reach above freezing.

And there's little man Charlie hanging out in the background.

This week I challenge you to go cozy and not worry about anything else other than that!

Cheers!

Re-Inventing "Old" Clothes

Outfit Details:
Band Tee Similar {Here & Here} | Sweater Similar{Here}  | Jeans Similar {Here} | Shoes Similar {Here} | Clutch | Hat

Running errands is something that happens on an extremely regular basis, I feel like we are always running out of something which results in packing both boys up and hitting the closest Target. And while we are there it's pretty much a necessity to check out all the clothes, am I right?

Anyway, my go-to outfits for running errands in the colder months is pretty much what's pictured above. A simple Tee Shirt, Sweater and Jeans. I like to do my best to look as put together as possible while not sacrificing comfort. And the beanie, well I hadn't washed my hair in a few days and it was looking a hot mess so I threw it on and out the door we went.

The best thing about this outfit is that I have had most of these pieces in my closet for years and I have had to find creative ways to re-wear them, as they are some of my favorite pieces. This is one of my favorite things to do, challenge myself to take pieces that have been shoved in the back of my closet for a while and bring them out and try to imagine a way to reinvent a certain piece. One thing I have come to realize is that it isn't about the amount of money you spend on your closet but on how to take the money you do spend and finding creative ways to piece outfits together.

A little fun story, the concert Tee I got when my then boyfriend, now husband, and I went to a Music Festival when we were freshly dating. Safe to say that this Tee shirt is very sentimental for me, I will wear it until it falls apart. I also got to meet the lead singer of that band that day as well!

My challenge to all of you is to rummage through the back of your closet, find an item that you haven't worn in a while and come up with a fun and unique way to style it today!

Date Night

Outfit Details:
Sweater | Pants | Shoes Similar {Here & Here}

For Valentine's Day this year Andrew and I actually got to dress up and go out, thank you Mom and Dad for watching the kiddos. Anyway, we went out to dinner and to see a comedy show. It was such a great night and it was so nice to go out just the two of us!

I decided to go a little more outside of my comfort zone by trying a pair of colored pants. I have had these things in my closet for a while now and have only worn them one or two times because they somehow made me very self conscious. I was rummaging through my things, trying desperately to find something to wear to a comedy show, was a lot more difficult that I thought it was going to be. So I ended up with this outfit and I couldn't have been more thrilled.

We're Cute

So this week I challenge you to style a pair of colored pants yourself!

Mixing Patterns

Outfit Details:
Shirt | Scarf | Jeans | Shoes | Bag Similar {Here}

Probably my favorite trend as of late has been mixing patterns. I just love all of the options that there are with this trend. This is one of my favorite outfits here lately, which with the weather we have been having, I haven't been able to wear it that often.

Honestly speaking, at first I was absolutely terrified to attempt this trend, mixing patterns seemed like something I couldn't get away with, like I was going to mess it up somehow. However, one thing I have learned with mixing patterns like this is that the options are endless and that it is mu\ch easier and way more fun than I could have ever even thought!

My challenge for you this week is to step outside of your comfort zone and mix some patterns of your own with items from your own closet!

Great Weather and Birthdays

Outfit Details:
Blouse Similar {Here} | Jeans | Shoes

Back in February we celebrated our oldest sons SECOND birthday! I seriously can't believe we have a two year old, it seems surreal. He's turning into such a smart, sometimes too smart, little kid. The reason I wanted to share this outfit today is because it was one of my favorites that I have gotten to wear recently. We live in the Midwest and this time of the year it's usually too cold to wear anything other than bulky sweaters, however the weekend of his party we at 80 degree weather, it was absolutely gorgeous!

On another note, this blouse I bought probably six or seven years ago and the last time I wore it, before his party, was at least four years ago. Again, reinventing an item in my closet from a long time ago! It makes the blouse seem brand new, without having to spend any extra money! My favorite kind of outfit.

Also, I shared a link to the shirt that Oliver wore for his party. I have a small Etsy shop that I started a while ago and I have branched into specialized clothing. If there is anything you would like created just shoot me an email at mmlarose30 {at} gmail {dot} com OR just message me through Etsy!

I hope you have been able to enjoy some great weather wherever you are!

Cheers!

Girls Night In

Outfit Details:
Shirt | Tank | {Scarf Similar} Here & Here| Jeans | Socks | {Shoes Similar} Here

One of my favorite go-to Girls Night In outfits!

Nothing says "let's get together, watch some girly TV and gossip" like a comfortable outfit. I absolutely love my girls nights, especially since they have become quite a bit more low key.

When trying to figure out what to wear I start with what bottoms I will wear. Staying in and chilling on the couch usually calls for a very comfortable pair of skinny's or leggings, plain and simple. Once that is decided I work my way up and end with the shoe choice. Generally I end up with an outfit quite similar to this one!

I absolutely love to layer my clothing, especially with a graphic tee or tank and button up shirt. Just ask my husband, he says I have too many of these style shirts, however I say you can never have enough! The more you have the more options you have when throwing together a comfortable outfit. This makes creating new outfits simple and fun, plus it doesn't break the bank when mixing and matching, creating new outfits of clothing you already own!

Big scarves are also one of my go-to styling items during the Fall and Winter months.
They are easy to throw on and help give any outfit depth and texture.

And let's be real here, being a mom of two boys, coffee isn't just a luxury but a hard core necessity on a daily basis. My day doesn't start before I have at least one cup :)

Cheers!

A Little Introduction

 Outfit Details:
Wrap | Tank | Jeans | Boots

Meet my family.
{from left to right}
Oliver {2}, Me, Andrew, Charlie {7 Months}

While this blog is going to be primarily fashion based I will throw in some personal details about my own life and that of my family. I am a stay at home mom so my boys are pretty much my entire world. This picture was taken this past December for our Christmas card, I am beyond thrilled with how it turned out due to the fact that all three boys were not into getting pictures taken.

My plan is to post once a week, maybe twice depending on what is going on, and sharing with you one of my favorite outfits from that week. I will share outfit details as well, in the hopes that it will inspire you to go and create the same or similar outfit. I look forward to sharing a little bit of my world with everyone!

Cheers!

About The Closet

My name is Melissa and among many things I am first and foremost a Mother of two boys, Oliver (two) and Charlie (seven months). My passions include reading, writing and spending as much time as I can with my family.

I want this blog to be a place for me to share my journey as a Mom through my closet. Gone are the days of "mom jeans" and track suits. Along with sharing my journey with you all I also am going to do so on a budget!

Welcome to Not Your Mom's Closet.

I hope you enjoy!
